Local homelessness charity Trinity Winchester is hosting its largest fundraising event of the year, the Big Sleep Out, at Winchester Cathedral on Friday 5th May. The event has raised over £90,000 for charities to date, and sees teams bed down in the Inner Close of the Cathedral and raise sponsorship for sleeping out.
This is not an experience of being homeless, as every person will have a hot shower and bed to return to. However sleeping outside for just one night is an eye-opening experience, and a fantastic event to be part of. Sign up with friends, colleagues, family or by yourself, and enjoy the evening celebration followed by the challenge of sleeping outside Winchester’s most iconic building with just a sleeping bag and cardboard shelter.
Councillor Jane Rutter, Mayor of Winchester, is taking part in the sleep out, and said ““I would encourage people to join in the Big Sleep Out. It is an eye opening experience, and the money raised will help some of the most disadvantaged people in our community. I’m looking forward to the challenge, and I’m starting to collect bubble wrap to keep myself warm through the night!”
