The new year brings new year’s resolutions and a new opportunity to help in your community. Alresford & Cheriton Scout Group has been encouraging Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to develop their resilience and daring for over 100 years. Our young members learn life skills and take part in excursions and trips which, over the years, have included: archery, night hikes, a live 10-mile Monopoly game across London using the actual streets, cooking, ironing (yes, really and surprisingly popular) and trips to the Jurassic coast, the House of Commons and Edinburgh. Our young members are an integral part of our community, selling programmes at the Alresford Show, picking up litter at the Watercress Festival and carol singing in a local care home at Christmas. Our much-loved Scout Hut off Bridge Road has reached its sell-by date, but there is good news.
With the new Sun Hill housing development comes a wonderful opportunity for us to build a new Scout headquarters suitable for 21st century Scouting on this site. The design of this new hut is still at the planning stage. We are looking for a community volunteer, ideally with some corporate fundraising experience, to coordinate fundraising activities for this new project. Could this be you?
No-one works alone in our Group so there would be plenty of support from other committee members, leaders and parents. We are also looking for a general fundraiser to help us organise fundraising social events throughout the year. If you are interested in giving us the benefit of your time, expertise and enthusiasm we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact Roy Naismith our Group Scout Leader for a chat. Happy New Year!
