This April, Alresford was truly a “green and pleasant land”, reminding us what a great privilege it is to live in this town.
For the NATC councillors, this has been one of the most difficult, and on various fronts, the saddest month of all. A number of councillors felt that they could no longer impose the pressure of council life on their families, and took the decision to resign. They are a great loss to the Town and will be missed. Equally, the Town’s long-serving Town Clerk, Stevie Kavanagh, retired in April and we wish her all the best for her well-earned retirement. The remaining councillors are:
Ernie Jeffs (Acting Chair), Margot Power (Finance Chair), Stephen Pinch, Irene Spencer, Simon Evans and Barbara Jeffs. If you are interested in finding out what is involved in being a councillor then please contact our Locum Town Clerk, Karen Ross.
The council are currently investigating a number of issues raised by residents, including the speed limit in Winchester Road, lorry traffic in New Farm Road and a suggested pedestrian crossing across the Avenue. The Council has agreed that discussions with Hampshire County Council should be resumed with regard to the upgrading of West Street.
All Town Council and Committee meetings are open to the public. Your council welcomes public participation and warmly invites you to attend any and all such meetings. Dates, times and agendas can be found on the NATC website and posted on public notice-boards in the town. With regard to public participation, we would like to thank all those residents who took part in the Alresford Spring Clear-up; your hard work made a huge difference to our town.
There is still time to enter the Garden of the year Competition 2017, with nominations to be lodged with the Council office by the end of June. The Council’s water bowser, offered for sale in last month’s Forum for £1,200, is still available. If you are interested please contact the Town Clerk.
