Xelabus – a brief history

How many times have you seen a green bus in the Meon Valley area bringing back memories of the former Hants and Dorset buses from 50 years ago?! Xelabus is the bus company for the Meon Valley area running a network of bus services partly supported by Hampshire County Council and Eastleigh Borough Council funding.

So how did Xelabus come about? Well, it was formed in 2010 by father and son Philip and Gareth Blair. As a family business Philip has been in the bus industry for over 40 years and had been employed with Hampshire County Council’s Public Transport Group then at Southampton City Transport and a short spell at Brighton Buses in scheduling and marketing as well as general operations.
Having lived in the area for over 45 years and become well versed with local bus networks. Gareth, his son who is Managing Director is 38 and has also worked with his father for a number of years on marketing and had always wanted to have his own business.

In 2010 Gareth passed his CPC Transport Management exams and had the ability to start operating buses with the correct legal requirements having been satisfied by the Traffic Commissioners. In partnership with his father Xelabus was formed in 2010 starting with just 2 buses from a base in Chandlers Ford. Within 18 months the company was growing fast and starting to run local bus services in the Eastleigh area and also with an extensive college and school network.
Within the last two years the company has acquired two bus companies and absorbed their operations into a flourishing operation.

Black Velvet Travel was first with additional local services in Eastleigh and then Brijan Tours later in the year with its bus operation in the Meon Valley and having been well known for providing local bus services for many years. The services operated by Brijan have continued to operate the same routes with Xelabus having invested in new buses improving the quality and reliability of the network.

The company having expanded in 7 years to now a 30 bus operation will continue to provide the best possible service for the community and invest further in new environmentally friendly vehicles but always maintain a network of services for the community.

Philip and Gareth are always interested to hear from their customers so if you want to get in touch ring them on 02380 644715 or email: [email protected].
